SANTA BARBARA

Santa Barbara, California was founded by Spanish missionaries in 1786, and boasts a rich history blending indigenous Chumash culture with Spanish influences. It became a prominent port city during the 19th century, attracting farmers and ranchers, but also a wealthy elite who fell in love with its Mediterranean climate and cuisine, colonial architecture, and laid-back, sophisticated California style.

Santa Barbara held the world's first official Earth Day celebration in 1969. It is home to the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, the Summer Solstice celebration, and the most famous Latin tradition, Old Spanish Fiesta Days.
